Since my time at Ball State University, more specifically the College of Architecture and Planning, I have acquired many good friends which have intertwined both my personal and academic communities. Two significant friendships are with my present roommate as well as my roommate from the last academic school year. As good friends we have engaged in many conversations sparked from each other’s interests and personal views on certain topics. One topic that has been the focus of many discussions is the existence of life beyond plant earth. Simply put, we have discussed the possibility that extraterrestrials may be real as well as the possibility that they are the product of imagination. The fascination with the topic started with our curiosity of U.F.Os and the many videos on the internet today that are believed to have captured the illusive aircrafts. Innocent dialogue on the existence of these creatures took our conversations to unforeseen lengths and what I might refer to as “related subtopics” such as religion and politics which in turn raised many questions about the importance of our own existence.
These evening dorm room chats turned into a regular occurrence and ultimately more research on the topic. This research consisted of videos, articles, and documentary series that have most certainly become a part of my life as one of my major interests. For me and my friends, this topic has become the subject of philosophical conversation and has provoked challenging thoughts for us about what we have come to believe about human life and culture. The major question that follows is, “what would it mean to the people of the world to find out that we are not alone in the universe?”
